Portable Seated Massage Station

Product Design

Is this UX Design?

Physical and digital product design have much in common. They differ in that a digital product is used by the user through technology, and in the case of industrial design, the user uses the product directly. However, the stages of the design process and the objectives are basically the same - the aim is to solve a problem and ensure that the user benefits from its use.

UX Goals

The task was to design a portable station for work-site massage. The product had to meet ergonomic requirements and respond to the needs of two main user groups - masseurs and patients. Due to the masseurs it should be light, compatible, stable and easy to use. It should also be comfortable, ergonomic and safe for patients.
The project was designed to meet the requirements for massage in the workplace. It is a service whose popularity is growing especially in offices, where we spend most of our time keeping our sitting position.

It is an unnatural attitude for human beings in the long term, which leads to negative health effects. My solution consists of two separate elements connected together during a massage. The first part is the seat, the second is responsible for supporting the head and chest of the person being massaged. The project involves the use of other facilities, already available in the offices, such as a desk or table, which should support the upper part of the device. The availability of adjustments ensures that everyone, regardless of height and weight, can be properly massaged. The lack of knee support (an element popular in other devices of this type) and the unique way of shaping the seat allows to keep the patient's position open where there are sharp angles between different parts of the body, so that blood flow is not restricted anywhere.

Thanks to the fact that the device is two-part, it is lightweight and easy to carry. When folded, the size of each element does not exceed 35x30x15 cm. The aesthetics of the product does not resemble existing massage chairs on the market. The form, colour and materials used in the production process make this unique product between medical equipment and elegant office furniture.
